REMEDIAL INVESTIGATION/REMEDIAL ACTION
ATLANTIC CITY VOLLEYBALL COURTS
Atlantic City, Atlantic County, New Jersey
Marathon was retained by Atlantic City Alliance and Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to complete the remediation of petroleum impacted soil and groundwater that was discovered when a 10,000 gallon No. 2 fuel oil underground storage tank (”UST”) was found during site development of a vacant parcel into beach volleyball courts.
Marathon removed the UST along with 350 tons of petroleum impacted soil and 3,000 gallons of petroleum impacted groundwater. Through collection of post-excavation soil samples and a groundwater investigation it was determined that the remediation was successful; however, constituents associated with historic fill were identified in the soil and groundwater. Marathon developed a remedial action workplan to cap the historic fill. Through Marathon’s efforts, construction of the volleyball courts continued following remediation and opened in time for a scheduled beach volleyball tournament.
The work completed by Marathon was done by a licensed site remediation professional pursuant to the NJDEP’s Site Remediation Reform Act and a response action outcome was issued for the property.
