UTILITY LOCATION PLAN
THE RICHARD STOCKTON COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY
Pomona, Galloway Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey
Marathon was contracted by Richard Stockton College of New Jersey to prepare an Overall Utility Location Plan for use as a planning tool for future projects at Stockton. There are four (4) levels of accuracy depicted on the plan based on available information: on the ground survey work, subsurface investigation (ground penetrating radar), as-built markups, and previous design information. Marathon gathered the available information and, using our previously prepared overall campus survey as a base, created a plan dedicated to depicting as many known utility locations as possible to alert Stockton and contractors where more subsurface investigation will be required prior to any detailed design or construction work.
The preparation of the plan included extensive coordination with Stockton Facilities and Plant Maintenance personnel to gather information on existing utility work and as-built drawings and files for inclusion in the plan. Phase 1 of the Stockton academic core area was built in the early 1970s. Phase 2 was done later in the 1970s. The earlier housing developments (Housing 1 through 3) were done in the 1970s and 1980s. These projects, as well as many other smaller pieces that were not documented well, were all designed and constructed prior to the advent of computer aided design. Marathon was tasked with taking the available paper copies and sketches prepared by Stockton personnel and digitizing the information as accurately as possible. The exercise resulted in an electronic file (AutoCAD) that effectively took information from a few dozen different places (CAD files, as-built markups, paper plans, sketches, and Stockton personnel memory) and created one reference document for use by Stockton.
